Aussie surfers Isabella Nichols and Jack Robinson capped off a stunning weekend at Bells Beach, securing victories in their respective categories at the Rip Curl Pro. Their performances not only delighted the local crowd but also added to Australia’s rich history at the prestigious event.
In the women’s final, Nichols triumphed over Brazilian rival Luana Silva, claiming her second career World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour victory. The win follows her strong performance at the El Salvador Pro earlier this year and comes two years after her first triumph at the 2022 Margaret River Pro.
“This victory has been a 15-year journey,” said Nichols, who has been honing her skills at Bells Beach since she was 15. “I’ve made countless trips here, working on my technique, and to finally win a Bell…it’s surreal. Honestly, I’m speechless.”
Robinson, the 2024 Paris Olympic silver medalist, also made his mark, securing his eighth career Champions Tour victory with a narrow win over Japan’s Kanoa Igarashi in the men’s final. The victory is particularly special for Robinson, who celebrated the moment with his family by his side.
“Far out man, it’s just a surreal feeling,” said Robinson, reflecting on the significance of his achievement. “It’s been an incredible week, and to have my whole family here to witness it makes it even more special.”
Both surfers’ victories represent a significant milestone in their careers and further solidify Australia’s dominance in the sport. With Nichols’ emotional triumph and Robinson’s continued excellence, the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach once again showcased world-class surfing at its finest.
