Danny McBride Discusses Surfing in South Carolina with Theo Von

by Allen

Actor and comedian Danny McBride, best known for his role as Kenny Powers in Eastbound & Down, recently shared his thoughts on surfing during an appearance on Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast. McBride, who calls Charleston, South Carolina, home, reflected on the coastal lifestyle and surf opportunities in the area.

In a lighthearted conversation, McBride and Von discussed the charm of Charleston, which boasts both scenic beaches and a thriving food scene. McBride described it as “the beauty of that city,” emphasizing the combination of water activities, good restaurants, and friendly locals.

Theo Von, known for his humor, asked McBride whether he spends time at the beach. McBride responded, “Yeah, we’re on the water all the time there,” adding that Charleston offers just the right conditions for those looking to surf or enjoy the ocean.

When Von suggested that Charleston’s small waves were perfect for beginners, McBride agreed, calling them “just the perfect little waves.” However, McBride confessed that while he enjoys the beach, he’s more into bodyboarding than surfing, joking about his “top-heavy” physique. “You ever see big, heavy dudes try to surf? It’s really hilarious. The aerodynamics are off,” McBride said, adding that he preferred to “go all-in on the boogieboarding.”

Von humorously responded, “Who’s coming out with the big boy boards? Big and Tall needs a surfboard,” before teasing McBride about the challenges of adult bodyboarding.

The conversation, filled with lighthearted banter, highlighted McBride’s relaxed approach to the sport while giving fans a glimpse into his personal life in Charleston. Fans of both McBride and Von can catch the full segment on the This Past Weekend podcast.
